History

Over the years, there have been several community singing efforts in Trumansburg.  Prior to the current chorus, Calista Smith, founder and executive director of the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, organized, directed and accompanied a chorus for several years, commencing in 1983.  Several members of the current chorus were members of that group.  In 2001, Methodist minister Deborah Pritts and Marcia Eames-Sheavly spearheaded the organizing of the current chorus, with the help of the Trumansburg Area Churches.  Alice Ploss agreed to direct the chorus.  Alice directed the Presbyterian Church choir for many years, and has taught music in the Trumansburg schools and music education at Ithaca College.  Heidi Hoover directed the chorus for the summer sessions of 2007 and 2008 while Alice was living out of the country.  Piano accompanists have included Francine Darling, Joan Kellam, Evangeline Ray, Russell Posegate, and Laura Voorhees.
True to Trumansburg community spirit, the group survives with the aid of volunteer efforts including the steering committee, assistant directors and rehearsal accompanists.
